Discovering New Sounds: How Antoine Bradford Introduced Me to the World of Indie Christian Music.
Making the switch to Christian music can be tough, especially if there’s a sound or artist you are personally connected to. Indie music has been a personal favorite genre of mine for many so much so, that I’ve found quite a few musicians that I hold close to my heart. The thought that there could be indie Christian music never really crossed my mind, and even if there was, would it compare to my favorite artists? This was something I didn’t have the answer to. After doing much research and soul-searching, I can confidently answer “yes” to this question.
The first artist I discovered was Antoine Bradford who resembles similarities to alternative soul musician, Daniel Caesar. As someone who loves Daniel’s music, I was immediately drawn to Antione’s unique sound. His music was unlike any other Christian music I've heard in the past.
Bradford recently released his second album titled ‘Like Flowers In The Sun’. On this album, I have found myself gravitating towards three different songs in particular. “Room For You,” “Be With You,” and “Living In The Promised Land” are by far personal favorites. “Be With You” specifically is special, as it feels like a love song to God, which explains wanting to be with Him:
“My heart longs to be with you.”
“Find My Way Home” speaks on the struggles of trying to fight your own battles, which no one can conquer alone because God is always on our side. This track mentions the idea of turning to God to fight these battles for you. We need God for everything, which is truthfully highlighted in “Find My Way Home” and “Carry Me.”
This EP is a true testimony of faith, and many Christians would benefit from giving it a listen. Many of the songs cover topics commonly experienced by everyone, which makes it extremely powerful. With its great meaning and relatability, ‘Like Flowers In The Sun’ is the missing piece for many music loving Christians like myself.
